![]() I’ve got to give the pistol its due on that count.Ī fluff piece in the popular press credited the pistol with accuracy and reliability properties that it does not possess. Big and small hands, all found the safety a good feature. Every friend and family member who tried the Hi-Point safety found the safety to be ergonomic and positive in operation. One pundit roundly criticized the safety as difficult to reach. One was so dangerous that I was appalled. Some were so sad and unprofessional that I was embarrassed for the persons involved. When doing my research on the pistol, I ran across comments, statements, and video that gave me pause. If possible, I would keep an extra takedown pin on hand in case it is damaged or lost. Every handgun should be cleaned and lubricated every 300 rounds. Spraying the pistol down with aerosol cleaner only goes so far. The slide is then pulled rearward and off the frame. The slide is locked to the rear and a pin driven out. But then, maybe the pistol isn’t meant to be field stripped. Perhaps the pistol is safe enough unless it is dropped. I agree with this assessment, and this is a limiting factor in the use and carry of the pistol. The owner’s manual tells us never to carry the pistol chamber loaded. While bulky, the 9mm blowback design allows the use of an inexpensive manufacturing technique. It takes a heavier slide to maintain inertia against this pressure. The barrel is fixed, and the slide simply blows back off the barrel once the bullet exits the barrel and pressure abates. The manual safety was positive in operation. Further, the C9 is so inexpensive you'll have plenty of money left over to buy practice ammo.Gotta give the Hi-Point C9 credit. You can't go wrong with a reliable 8+1 9mm, plus you get a decent Galco holster right with the gun. Would I carry it? No, it's too heavy for its size, and I have better options available to me.įor those people who don't have better options and are short on cash, Hi-Point's C9 might be a lifesaver. I think the Hi-Point would make a fine shelf or toolbox gun. Hi-Point sells the pistol with a black suede Galco Paddle Lite holster for only a few bucks more, which I think is a really smart move. Throw a loaded mag in and rack the slide by hand. The slide locks back on an empty magazine, but there is no manual slide release lever. The C9 also has a magazine disconnect safety.Īn eight-round magazine with finger extension is provided with the pistol, and Hi-Point sells 10-round magazines with polymer grip extensions as well. I was able to manipulate it with the side of my thumb while keeping a firing grip on the pistol, but I wouldn't want to have to do it under stress. There is a frame-mounted safety on the pistol-down for Fire, up for Safe. For some reason it feels at least two pounds lighter. The single-action trigger pull measured nine pounds, but I measured it five times because I just couldn't believe it was that heavy. The grip was very comfortable, and with the weight of the slide soaking up the recoil, shooting it was a pleasant experience. I had no problems with the slide rubbing on the web of my hand during firing, but someone with large hands might. The grip of the pistol has mild finger grooves that fit my hand correctly, but I have small hands. The front and back of the frame are serrated for gripping. The frame of the C9 is high-impact polymer. Felt recoil is not bad, due in part to the 29-ounce weight. The front of the finger-groove frame is serrated to help improve gripping. The barrel is fixed to the frame, allowing for better than expected accuracy. Hi-Point also provides a rear ghost ring sight as well. The sight picture they provide is not very good, but it does allow you to aim the pistol more than well enough for use at self-defense distances. The front sight is metal and of one piece with the slide the rear is plastic and adjustable. The pistol comes with three-dot sights, yellow in the front and red in the rear. The slide is a zinc-aluminum alloy and has a black powder-coated finish. The slide is both big and heavy to absorb the recoil energies of the cartridge. That's because that it is a straight blowback design, very unusual for a 9mm. If you think the C9 has odd proportions, you're right. Let me say that again: It went bang every time I pulled the trigger during my pre-test, during filming for Personal Defense and at my later range sessions where I tested it for accuracy. As the pistol only came with one magazine, that took a while, but I had no malfunctions. The first thing I did upon taking the C9 out of the box was fire 200 rounds as fast as I could load and fire it.

Also, his ammo pools regenerate while gunzerking, except for rocket launchers to prevent them from being a total Game-Breaker. This naturally prevents you from aiming down the sights, although several of his skills boost accuracy anyway. Salvador, it should be mentioned, is very strong. If you so desired you could easily heft a rocket launcher in one hand and a sniper rifle in the other. Borderlands 2 has Salvador, the 'Gunzerker', who can do this with any two guns in the game. The only exceptions are in the first game (a bolt-action rifle and a rocket launcher) at all other times, she's dual-wielding to her heart's content. Rayne in the BloodRayne games does this, and almost nothing but this, at all times.+ On the other hand, the Extra Crispy Game Mod and general bugfix goes around the issue by re-tooling Secondary Fire so guns held akimbo can fire in it, while at the same time allowing for guns akimbo on many other bigger weapons, like the assault rifle, the new Grenade Launcher and even the Howitzer. Other than constantly hitting the "drop weapon" key, the game gives you no way to avoid dual wielding whenever you happen to pick up another gun of the same type, too. It's something of a mixed bag, as you're robbed of the Secondary Fire, but generally the secondary fire for the guns you can use two at a time was either trying to force some alternate mode that the gun simply wasn't designed for or just plain useless: secondary mode with one pistol is quick and doesn't cost two bullets per shot (since akimbo forces you to fire both guns at the same time), but the lack of fire rate cap and no insistence on holding the gun at an odd angle means it can accomplish about the same at a further range while the SMGs lose the slower and more precise secondary mode, that mode was still noticeably less accurate than the pistols anyway the Sawed-Off Shotgun loses its more powerful double-barreled blast, but since akimbo weapons both fire at the same time anyway, it's closer to "upgrading" to permanent double-barrel blasts, without the increased spread from using it but at the cost of being unable to fire just one barrel at a time when ammo becomes scarce and the flare gun's secondary fire uses eight flares at once only to not set what you hit with them alight, which is about the only reason to use it over a regular bullet-firing weapon. The sequel, Blood II, does away with the powerup, and just lets you dual-wield one-handed guns when you pick another one up.In the first game, it is possible to find a "Guns Akimbo" powerup note possibly the Trope Namer, which makes the protagonist wield two weapons (shotguns, napalm launchers etc) for a short time.In Blockland, "Guns Akimbo" doesn't even have to be installed separately like many other weapons, it comes with the game, having better accuracy than the normal pistol. The titular leading lady in Bayonetta can not only dual-wield, but QUAD-wield with her hands and her powers as a witch for the weapons on her calves/heels, everything from bladed weapons to pistols to ROCKET LAUNCHERS, and apparently any combination thereof.Even more absurd is Vermilion in the Battle Arena Toshinden games, who holds a Peacemaker handgun in his right hand, and a shotgun in his left.Batman also dual-wields " blastguns" on both his arms. Batman Doom: The Tally Man fights Batman with dual revolvers. The Beat Saber-esque game Audica by Harmonix has a pair of blasters in place of the former's iconic sabers.Julien du Casse: I pine for the day when one gun will carry ten shots, and not the other way around. ![]() The oven temp could probably go up a little as well, next time I'll try 475°-500°f. I would probably add a little salt next time and I didn't get as much lift as I would have liked, probably due to the self-rising flour being a little old (about 10 months). The repeated flattening/folding procedure produced some flakiness but the biscuit was sturdy enough to use for breakfast sandwiches or to douse with gravy. The end result was a pretty damn good biscuit. The biscuits were put on a parchment lined tray so they were just touching, the tops were brushed with a little buttermilk and put in the oven for about 15-18 minutes until the tops were browned. This was done three more times before the dough was flattened to about 1" thickness and biscuits cut out. ![]() Once all the loose flour had been incorporated into the dough it was turned out onto a lightly floured surface, flattened and folded. The buttermilk and water were weighed, added to the fat/flour mix and everything was quickly mixed together with a spoon. Flour and margarine were weighed into a bowl, I rubbed the fat into the flour with my hands (they used a mixer for this in the clip) until it looked like cornmeal but with a few larger pieces still remaining. First I converted the recipe to baker's percentages which came out like this:įor the first batch I went with two cups of flour, which is 226 grams, and calculated the rest of the ingredients based on the flour weight. The next step was to reduce the amounts to something more manageable. It has a pretty soft consistency which matched what was shown on Food Paradise. They didn't specify the margarine brand so I basically chose the one that was on sale that week (Blue Bonnet). Since no leaveners were listed I assumed the flour they used was self-rising, and since they are in the south I assumed they were using a soft wheat flour like White Lily (which was convenient since I had some White Lily self rising flour in the pantry!). I had to make a few assumptions about the ingredients. The recipe they gave is for a commercial size batch, it's also very short on details with only the list of ingredients and oven temperature. Travel Channel is playing back-to-back-to-back episodes of Food Paradise and when the episode I saw a fews years back comes on I stop what I'm doing and get ready, just in case it's the version with the recipe. Fast forward a few years and again I'm working on the computer with the TV on in the background. I searched on-line but the only version of the clip I could find omitted the recipe part, there seem to be several versions of Food Paradise's Sunrise Biscuit Kitchen clips but I never could find the one that included the recipe description. As I was working on the computer I heard them go over their biscuit recipe, but I was unprepared and by the time I could grab a pen and paper it was over. I've never had the opportunity to try their biscuits myself, but as a southern transplant to a northern state anything biscuit related piques my interest. One of the featured restaurants was Sunrise Biscuit Kitchen in Chapel Hill, NC. An episode titled "Drive Thru Paradise" was on which highlighted places around the country that have outstanding drive-thru offerings. The program on at the time was "Food Paradise", a show on the travel channel that does short clips about various restaurants based around a particular theme. Thank goodness I did, because baby, these Copycat Sunrise Biscuit Kitchen Buttermilk Biscuits.A few years ago I had the TV on in the background while I was working on the computer, as I often do. Granted it was for a huge batch of biscuits (5 lbs of flour huge!!) but it was something I could work with. Until I came upon a newspaper article from The Daily Tar Heel that had the basic outline of their recipe. I've tried other biscuit recipes and they just weren't the same. So this year I went on a mission to find this recipe and boy, it's not easy. mind blown! Their fried chicken biscuit sandwich was so good, we haven't stopped talking about it in 6 years. North Carolina was our first stop and it was there that our minds were blown by this tiny breakfast sandwich shop in Raleigh. We packed up a small rental car (too small if you ask me) and took our then 9 month old son, my sister and our dog, Penny down the east coast. So about 6 years ago my husband and I decided to take a 2 day road trip down to Atlanta to visit my cousin Soupbelly and her family.
